Chapter 3...Where to now?

I woke up in a dark room. At first I could not tell if I was alive or dead. No light could pass through these walls. I thought \"Let me pinch myself\" then for the first time I felt that my wrists were tied behind me.

When Keith and I got home, everyone was delighted to see us. That included Tom and Mrs Sherwood who were now the epitome of grace as they indulged in their now old age. They did not work for us anymore but they still stayed in the servant\"s quarters receiving just as much the treatment as any servant in our Villa. They did not want to go anywhere else. My dad did that to people. I had lunch on the patio with Keith who was more than happy to keep me company. Like he did not stay by my side all day. Stupid Keith. He always acted like an older brother to me. At first it had been cute, but I must admit it was somewhat over the top. Now I just let him have his fair of fun. Lunch was Mac and Cheese, for now, with glasses of orange juice. Classic.

"Keith." I had stopped eating minutes before because something kept gnawing at my brain. "Yes, Miss Cain?" "What do we do now? I mean, I have always known what I had to do next, but now that I have gotten what I always wanted, I am starting to feel somewhat unfulfilled." My whole life had been this book after the next, this strategy after the next and now I literally had nothing to do. Nothing. At all."We could travel. Stay in a different continent for a while. Maybe visit Pandora."

Pandora was thousands of miles away from where we were.  About 50 years ago, a small chip of each continent in the world moved from its original spot. The division killed vast numbers of people in its wake. Noone could tell what caused it. There was no scientific explanation, or any other explanation to be frank. The continent chips kept moving for weeks till it was certain that they were moving towards each other. The ones who survived on the moving chips were only a few. Most tried to swim back to shore but they died, either on the long swim back, by shark slaughter or if they did manage to get close, by the still falling debris of what used to be their home continent.

Some called it God\"s punishment to put people in check, others thought God wanted His people to reunite, and rejoice in all their ethnicities. The people who survived in Pandora and those who lived there believed that they had been chosen for that exact cause. Pandora bloomed as one conjoined state with very caring, hardworking and open-minded people. In the last couple of years, most of the population was mixed race. Most of the people were fluent in a number of languages. The rest of the world supported Pandora and it had grown into one of the most prominent states in the world. It was a good place for a getaway.

"Miss Cain? You wish to leave us for Pandora?" My train of thought was interrupted by Esme, a girl of about 17 who is one of our cooking staff. Esme is easily pretty. Blonde hair, blue eyes. And is very quickly moved by emotion. British descent too. I turn to her and there are tears in her eyes. Oh Jesus. The Drama Queen in her has awakened. Again. This time it is the 1800\"s version, because she is clutching her heart and everything. I seriously want to roll my eyes, but she is so adorable. I would have asked for a raincheck on the Pandora trip, but now I am all in.

"Maybe just for a couple of days," I say with one of the fakest smiles I have ever pulled. "Right Keith?" Anything to get away from thus Drama Queen. "Of course, Miss Cain. I will make the arrangements with Cooper right away."

I take one long breath. Pandora here I come.
